Court remands herdsman for allegedly killing Kwara farmer
An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court presided over by Abdulraheem Bello has remanded a Fulani herdsman, Manu Usman, at the Correctional Service Centre, Ilorin, for allegedly stabbing a farmer, Akilesho Attah, to death.
Usman was alleged to have repeatedly stabbed Attah in the neck while pursuing him during the grazing of his animals on his boss’ maize farm.
The Police First Information Report stated that Attah of Biagba Farm sighted four Fulani herders grazing their animals on the farm belonging to his boss, one Agboisa Comuni, in the Gwanara in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State on December 3, 2020; and discovered that the animals destroyed the maize planted on the farm.
“He (Usman) and two others chased them and on catching up with one of them, Usman brought out a knife and stabbed him many times. Attah was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. Police investigation later led to the arrest of Usman of Wadata Fulani Camp via Gwanara in Baruten LGA,” the FIR stated.
The prosecutor, Zacheous Folorunsho, prayed the court to remand the accused in custody since the alleged offence was a capital offence.
Bello granted the request of the prosecutor while the matter was adjourned till February 12
