NFF, Rohr bicker over six-month salary pay off
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr would expressly reject a proposed six-month pay off being put together by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the bid to terminate the contract of the German coach, NationSport report.
Relationship between the former Bordeaux coach and NFF broke down irrevocably last week following the Super Eagles’ listless 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in the final second round Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun in Lagos.
Though Nigeria did progress to the final round play-off, there had been several calls from both the public and a section of the press for the sacking of the former Bayern Munich defender
However, it was gathered that the NFF are now in serious dilemma on how to sort out a severance package as well payment of outstanding allowances with a grapevine source claiming that a six-month salary proposal might be tabled before the coach.
But sources close to the German coach informed that the NFF might be in for a rude shock with such a lopsided proposal
“ As we speak, the NFF have not sent any written document to Rohr and I don’t know why anybody would be talking about six-month Salary pay off,” a reliable source who pleaded anonymity said last night.
“ I’m surprised with the way NFFF is carrying on when in actual fact, they have severely breached the contract between both parties.
“ As far as I know, Rohr is owed a four-month salary and he has a valid contract till the end of next year; so why would anybody be talking about paying him off with a mere six month salary?
“ Do you know the NFF is also owning the coach and his four assistants several bonuses? But I want to believe the so-called six-month salary payoff is just in the realm of speculations but let’s wait and see what they are going to offer,” he noted,
Incidentally, an NFF official informed the federation was still working on finer details as per termination of Rohr’s contract.
“ As far as I know, the NFF board has reached an agreement on Rohr and are now working on the finer details but I don’t know how much is the payoff package,” he said.
