Kenya’s Kibet Koech Wins Access Bank Lagos Marathon
Kenyan Kibet Koech has won the 2023 edition of the Lagos City Marathon on Saturday.
Kibet finished the 42km race in 2:14:8 seconds to claim the grand prize of $50,000.
The first Nigerian to reach the finish line is Adamu Shehu Muazu from Jos, Plateau State.
Meanwhile, organizers of the Lagos City Marathon, Nilayo Sports Management has noted that this year’s race will serve as Olympic qualifiers to the top runners at the event
Chief Bukola Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management said the Lagos City Marathon achieved a Gold Label Status and thus qualify to serve as Olympic qualifiers.
The top runners at Lagos Marathon today automatically qualified for the Olympic
games to hold in Paris, France in 2024.
The Gold-Label Access Bank sponsored Lagos City Marathon won by Kibet is the 8th edition.
The marathon began at 7 am at National Stadium, Surulere, with Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on the sidelines for the start.
