The troops from Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) were ambushed by suspected extremist groups at Gidan Rana along the Main Supply Route (MSR) between Isa and Gudumi in Isa Local Government Area (LGA).
The Nigerian Army troops, while on patrol, encountered heavy gunfire and successfully repelled the assailants, though exact details of enemy casualties remain unclear.
Tragically, one soldier was killed in action (KIA), five others sustained injuries (WIA), and one personnel is reported as missing in action (MIA).
Additionally, a military technical vehicle was destroyed in the attack. The injured troops were swiftly evacuated to Isa General Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
An immediate follow-up operation was launched to locate and recover the missing personnel, but details remain sketchy as investigations continue.
This systematic pattern of attacks has further strained the security situation in Sokoto and other parts of Northwest and North-Central Nigeria, where residents and authorities alike face mounting challenges in maintaining stability.
