The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, has awarded contracts for the design of a new altra-modern flyover and a dual carriage way at Ikot Oku Ikono junction, all in Uyo Local Government Area.
The state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, who made this disclosure during his regular inspection tour of government project sites in the state, noted that the on-going dualisation of the Uyo-Etinan road and the flyover projects would ease the current traffic congestions at Ikot Oku Ikono, when completed.
The commissioner expressed the sensitivity of Governor Emmanuel’s government to the anticipated influx of more people into Akwa Ibom State, saying that the new flyover project, when fully executed, would allow road users and other commuters coming into the state capital from Abak and other towns from that road corridor, to gain easy access, while the commuters from Idoro and Etinan, would freely ply the ground ways.
He charged the construction company, P.W. Nigeria Limited, represented by its Project Manager, Engr. G. Backnall, to deliver the flyover design within 30 working days, to enable the construction of the project to take off promptly.
Responding, Engr. Backnall, promised to deliver the design job in record time to meet up with the government schedule.
The commissioner was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Ifreke Ekpa, director of civil engineering, Engr. Effiong Edoho, that of electrical engineering, Engr. Peter Udobang and others.
News Express learnt that the new flyover, when completed, would be the fourth major ultra-modern flyover to be constructed in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, in the past eight years.
The transformation of Uyo was kick-started by the immediate past administration of Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON), now a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic.
