Three suspects namely Abubakar Saidu’, 22 years old, Danladi Abdulkarim, 30 years old and Abdullah Idris, 25 years old were on the 24th of January 2020 arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for stealing a four (4) years old boy Hammed Adeniran.
They were arrested after the boy’s mother, Nimota Adeniran reported the theft at Warewa police station. She had narrated to the Police that one of her neighbours informed her that her son was sighted with three strange men at Arepo bus stop along Lagos/Ibadan expressway where they were waiting to board a vehicle to only God knows destination .
According to her, she immediately checked where she had left her son and discovered that he was no longer where she left him.
On the strength of the report, the DPO Warewa division, SP Folake Afeniforo quickly mobilized a team of policemen and raised to the bus stop where the men were said to be waiting to board vehicle. On getting there, the three men were met with the child in their possession and were promptly arrested with the help of members of the public.
When they were interrogated, the three (3) suspects who claimed to have come from Jigawa state could not give any reasonable account of why the child was in there possession.
The Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence department for a discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
The CP also advised parents to always take the security and wellbeing of their children serious in order to shield them from those looking for every means to be rich.
Meanwhile, the stolen child has been reunited with his parents while the suspects are undergoing interrogation.
