Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has made a U-turn and apologize about a statement he made while he was in Abuja on the 27 of January to see President Muhammadu Buhari.
The apology comes from a video made by the Cross River State Government (CRSG) Electronic Media. via a youtube link https://youtu.be/uhvdefd3_ms
While speaking about the detained journalist, Agba Jalingo, the governor accused him of blackmailing the former governor of the state.
Speaking to journalists about Jalingo, he said “After he began writing bad articles about the state, I approached him as a sibling. I told him, the ex – governor said to me, you blackmailed him very much because his wife was in detention due to child trafficking. The governor resorted to paying him monthly”.
But speaking in the video titled ‘Ayade Speaks on Industrialisation, Clarifies Statement About A Former Governor’, The governor tried to clarify his previous statement.
He said, “I want to make the facts clear, very, very clear, there was never a time that the wife of a former governor was ever detained, there was never a time that Agba Jalingo became a thing for where he was leaving a monthly payment for, and I want to put it on record with strong apologies that I didn’t intend any hurt or harm, I think I got my facts totally wrong and I have to correct it because nobody fell to the blackmail”.
