Two drowns in Akwa Ibom River

Two friends, a male and female, from Ikot Osura community in the Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday drowned in the community’s river on Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road.
It was gathered that the duo went to the river that day for swimming when the incident happened.
A student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “We gathered that the two persons went to swim in the river on Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road on Saturday, but after a few hours, they were found dead by the bank of the river.
“When the news got to our school, some students rushed out of their classes to see if the incident was true.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Nnudam Frederick, who confirmed the incident, said the police had commenced investigation to unravel the cause of the death.
He said, “I received the report from the Divisional Police Officer of Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area that a boy and a girl got drowned in Ikot-Osura River, on Ikot-Ekpene-Aba Road.”
