Akwa Ibom State University SUG condemns illegal raid on Students

The Student Union government (SUG)chapter of Akwa Ibom Stste University has condemned what it tagged as illegal raid by operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police on the main campus of the state owned University. . The EFCC had earlier in a statement disclosed that it had arrested 19 students of Akwa ibom state University involved in Internet fraud otherwise known as Yahoo-Yahoo.
The SUG of AKSU in a statement signed by the President, Uko Joseph and the Secretary Kingsley Augustine , disclosed that the raiding of the students community was absurd and unacceptable
“it has been brought to our notice the unrest and chaos within the university community, specifically ikot Akpaden ( Main campus) Arising from the unjustifiable and unwarrant arrest of Akwa ibom state university students, with personal confirmation and evidence from eye witnesses, and illegal raid by the men of the police force, along side the EFCC took place in the student community with Lots of damages on induced on the lives and properties of the students. This is extremely absurd and unacceptable in its entirety as such actions in a negation and gross violation of the fundamental human right of the student and further initiate a sense of insecurity, fear and precariouness among the studens”
According to the Students , their colleagues should be released immediately .
“We therefore demand an mmediate and unconditional release of the arrested students so as to maintain the good working relationship between the student community and the law enforcement agents “The statement said.
The SUG also appealed to other students to remain calm and law abiding as its committed to ensure the safety and well being of the Students
