Female Student commits suicide after attenching church vigil in Ondo

A final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, (AAUA), Ondo State, Ayandare Modupe, has reportedly committed suicide after attending a church vigil.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the institutions student union, Olaogbebikan Noble disclosed that the deceased walked into an uncompleted building close to the church where she attended a vigil at a white garment church and committed suicide.

According to The Whistler , the 500- level student of the Department of Agronomy was reported to have left a suicide note in her bag before hanging herself.

Noble who added that the student committed suicide at the early hours of Monday around 4am, stated that law enforcement agencies have been informed already and investigation has commenced on the matter.

“We express in strong terms our dissatisfaction and agony with respect to the death of one of our student, Ayandare Modupe. A 500 level student of the Department of Agronomy (Agronomy Departmental President).

“According to report the deceased was said to have committed suicide at the early hour of today around 4am after they finished vigil in her church.

“The incident happened beside the church she attends around Sportless Villa.

“The law enforcement agency have been informed already and all hands are on desk in getting to the root of the situation.

“Be rest assured that justice will be served and the law enforcement agency will do thorough investigation.

“Should you have any information to supply regarding the incident that happened, kindly reach out to the students’ union. Stay tuned for further updates as further investigations are underway,” the statement said.

Also, in another statement, the deceased department in which she was the President expressed sadness over her demise while pleading with students who were struggling to seek help.

The statement which was signed by Faith Oluwatimilehin said, “We have lost one of our own, Comrade Modesty, who served as the President of the Department of Agronomy.

” Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.

“During this difficult time, we urge everyone to come together in support of one another.

“The mental well-being of our members is of utmost importance, and we encourage anyone who may be struggling to seek help.

“Our faculty offers counselling services, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

“Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to Comrade Modesty’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“Let us honour her memory by fostering a compassionate and supportive environment for all.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that the deceased left a suicide note in her bag before committing suicide at an uncompleted building.

Odunlami, however, added that police detectives have commenced investigation on the incident
