Fubara to address Rivers on Expiration of LG Chairmen’s Tenure

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that he will make a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, ( Today ) at 7am, regarding the expiration of the tenure of Local Government Council Chairmen and Councillors.

A short statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi noted that the public is advised to tune in to all radio and television stations to hear the Governor’s address.

The chairmen of the local governments in the state have vowed not to leave following the expiration of their tenure on Monday

They were appointed by ex-governor Nyesom Wike who’s the FCT Minister. They have thrown their support around Wike in his political right with Fubara.

Although the factional state assembly lawmakers loyal to Wike extended the tenure of the local council Chairmen by six months and overruled the governor when he refused to sign it into law, the governor has insisted that they must go.

It was reported that youth have occupied the secretariats of the local councils in support of the governor insisting that the local government chairmen must go.

Security has been beefed up across the state by the police who have warned all sides against breakdown of law and order
