IGP issues warning Against Incessant Transfer of Cases, Misuse of Office

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning against the indiscriminate transfer of case files and misuse of police authority.
In a statement, the IGP emphasized that those unethical practices undermine investigations, erode public trust that such should no longer be tolerated. Noting officers engaging in such acts would face strict disciplinary measures.
The IGP directed all investigative units to handle cases with diligence, integrity, and professionalism. He reiterated that cases must be investigated within the jurisdiction where offenses were committed unless expressly approved by his office. He also cautioned against police interference in civil disputes, warning that officers who misuse their authority in such matters would be held accountable.
Additionally, the IGP condemned the filing of frivolous petitions intended to harass or intimidate individuals. To curb this, all petitions must now include a declaration of authenticity. He urged the public to submit complaints through proper channels and assured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to transparency and justice.
