Man Attacks Wife With Machete In Ondo
A 40-year-old woman, Mrs. Augustina Odechukwu, has been attacked with a machete by her husband in Akure, the Ondo State capital, leaving her with deep cuts on her arms and body.
Ut was gathered that the woman who hails from Ebonyi State, was attacked by her husband, Odechukwu Sunday, with a machete in their residence on Oda Road, Akure.
The husband, who is from Anambra State, was said to have given the woman and their five children a quit notice from their apartment before the incident happened.
The woman, who narrated what transpired between her and the husband, said she has not been in talking terms with her husband for over a year.
According to her, my husband was no longer taking care of me and the four children and I could not leave because I could not afford to rent a room for myself and the children.
She further revealed that she had been doing menial jobs like helping people to fry garri to take care of their children and pay their school fees.
Mrs. Odechukwu said she’s legally married to her husband of over 14 years, but suddenly without any reason, he wanted her and their children to vacate their home.
“It’s been over a year now, my husband and I have not been living as husband and wife. We are just staying in the same room and nothing more.’’ Reacting to the incident, the state police commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, said he had ordered that the case be transferred to the command headquarters without delay.
He promised that cases of gender-based violence would be given speedy attention.
