NIGERIAN RAILWAY MODERNISATION PROJECT: LASG ANNOUNCES NIGHT CLOSURE OF IJU LEVEL CROSSING FOR REPAIRS
The Lagos State Government has announced the night closure of the Iju level crossing for repairs from 8:00 pm on Sunday, 23rd of May until 6:00 am on Monday( Today), 24th May, 2021.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation, the Commissioner, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, explained that the closure was necessary to repair the damaged rail track caused by a recent accident involving an articulated vehicle.
He stressed that urgent repairs are necessary to prevent accidents of trains running on the track, imploring road users to ply suggested alternative routes during the temporary closure.
He said that motorists coming from Abule-Egba can access Iju through Jonathan Coker, Charity to Olayiwola through Puposola to Toyin Level Crossing using Giwa, Oke-Aro, adding that Charity to Abattoir to Okekototo Pen Cinema Flyover is also an optional route.
“Motorists from Iju Road going to Abule-Egba can go through Ogba, College Road to Jonathan Coker, to Abule-Egba, as well as Iju-Ishaga to Toyin Level Crossing to Puposola through Charity, Abule-Egba”, he added.
Dr. Oladeinde also informed vehicle owners that Pen Cinema Flyover to Tabon-Tabon through Abattoir, Charity to Abule-Egba is available for use, as well as plying Ijaiye Road to Odo-Eran, Mobil to Oba Ogunji, Pen Cinema Flyover.
While advising motorists to obey the Law Enforcement Officers deployed to manage traffic flow during the night repairs at the level crossing, the Commissioner emphasised that the State Government prioritises the safety of Lagosians and will continue to do so.
