No lives lost as Tanker explodes on Ibadan-Ife expressway
A tanker filled with petrol has exploded and caught fire on the Ibadan-Ife expressway, Oyo state.
The incident, which involved two articulated trucks, an 18-seater bus, two commercial cabs (micra), a tricycle, and three motorcycles, left all the vehicles completely burnt.
According to The Nation, no life was lost in the explosion which occurred around 4:30pm near the Iyana-Ajia bridge in Ibadan on Saturday.
The incident was allegedly caused by a petrol spill from the tanker.
The spill continued for about ten minutes, giving people and nearby vehicles time to flee before the tanker burst into flames.
Several vehicles and motorcycles initially tried to make a U-turn towards Egbeda-Ibadan road but were abandoned when drivers noticed signs of fire.
All vehicular movement in the area was halted for nearly two hours.
Commercial drivers attempting to use adjoining streets faced difficulties due to the poor condition of the roads.
