NYSC Members Sent Home From Camp for missing registration deadline

Dozens of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been abruptly dismissed from the orientation camp in Paiko Local Government Area of Niger State.

Uwa Oze, a prospective corps member who travelled from Edo State, shared her experience in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

In the video, Oze described how the corps members were woken up one morning and informed that they would need to return home. Many of the affected corps members, having travelled long distances to the camp, were left without funds to take them back home.

“I was part of those who went for NYSC orientation camp, batch B stream II. We are part of those that were shifted to Batch C. I was later given a call-up letter. I am reporting from Niger. This is Niger,” she said in the viral video.

Oze further adds, “This early morning, they woke us up that we should be going back home. Some of us don’t have a transport fare. They said, we should be going back home. Look at us”.

According to Oze, she spent over N40,000 on transportation to reach the camp.

“You people should help us tag NYSC. We should be going back home. Yesterday, they said that we should come by 5:30 this morning that the portal will be opened only for us to go to the hall where we were asked to go home.

“I came from Edo State to Niger, spending more than 40,00 and said that we should be going home”. She turned her camera around showing many stranded prospective corps members.

“Help us to tag NYSC, Please, You people should help us to tag NYSC, please,” she said.

The one-minute and ninety-second footage showed numerous stranded prospective corps members in similar situations.

When contacted , Samuel Oga, the NYSC spokesperson for Niger State, explained why the NYSC management dismissed the corps members.

He stated that corps members were originally instructed to report between the 28th and 29th, with registration scheduled for two days.

Oga claimed that those asked to leave arrived late on the 30th or 31st and had missed the registration deadline.
