Osimhen apologise to Punch, Nigerian journalists
New Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has tendered his apology to The Punch Newspaper and other journalists in Nigeria for calling them “copy and paste.”
Osimhen was reacting to reports which quoted him in an interview with Sport1, as saying: “I am proud to join a club, who have seen great players like Maradona, Higuain and Cavani.“
The 21-year old said he has not said such a thing, explaining he is yet to grant interview since the passing of his father.
He called the medium and journalists in Nigeria ‘copy and paste’ and went further use abusive words.
“I never said such a thing, y’all copy paste journalist just like to fabricate lies,since the passing of my late father I haven’t grant any interview whatsoever,stop this nonsense else na thunder go fire una.”
The former Wolfsburg and Lille forward has come out to apologise for his choice of words and language.
“As much as I dislike being misquoted or taken out of context by the media, I want to apologise to @MobilePunch and other journalists that felt offended for the type of language I used in my earlier post,sorry about it,makee una no vex I still be una boy…peace❤️”
Napoli completed the signing of the Super Eagles striker from French Ligue 1 club Lille for a club record fee of £74 million.
With bonuses and addons, the deal makes the 21-year old the most expensive African player.
The transfer also surpassed Alex Iwobi’s £40 million move from Arsenal to Everton last summer, making him the most expensive footballer in Nigeria and Africa, £2 million more than what Arsenal paid Lille last summer for Nicolas Pepe.
According to French sports newspaper L’Equipe, the deal is worth more than $96m (81.3m euros) making him the most expensive African player of all time.
Osimhen joined Lille from Belgium’s Charleroi as a replacement for Pepe and scored 18 goals in all competitions last season.
He was named as Lille’s player of the season and was also named in Ligue 1’s team of the season.
