Osimhen contracts COVID-19, to miss Cagliari clash
Super Eagles and Napoli c of Italy Striker Victor Osimhen is expected to miss Napoli’s Serie A clashes against Cagliari on Sunday and Spezia three days later after he tested positive for coronavirus.
The Nigeria international returned to Naples on Thursday and underwent the mandatory COVID-19 PCR test, which turned out positive on Friday.
“Osimhen tested positive for the molecular naso-pharyngeum swab on his return from abroad on Thursday. The player is asymptomatic and has not met the team group,” Napoli revealed via a tweet.
Osimhen has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder during the Super Eagles’ 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Benin City last November.
Since joining Napoli from Ligue 1 club Lille, the 22-year-old has scored two goals in six Serie A appearances.
His last outing for the Italian side was in November, when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Bologna
