The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four suspects for vandalizing armored cables in different parts of Abuja.
According to police sources, a surveillance team from the Maitama Division, while on routine patrol around the NICON expressway in the early hours of March 15, noticed suspicious movement near a flower garden.
The officers pinned down and monitored the activities before apprehending two suspects, Thomas Albert, 37, and Hassan Salisu, 18, at about 4:30 a.m. while they were digging the ground to remove armored cables.
Similarly, at about 5:30 a.m., the police arrested two other suspects, Abdulsalam Muikaila, 20, and Abba Nafiu, 29, near an AP Filling Station beside the Nigeria Customs Headquarters, also caught in the act of vandalizing cables.
Police investigations further revealed that Thomas Albert had previously been arrested for theft and was charged to court on March 10, 2025.
Items recovered from the suspects included shovels, axes, hacksaws, and cutlasses. The Maitama Division has taken over the investigation, and efforts are ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and possible links to other criminal activities.
