Policeman Arrested For Killing Two Ekiti Youths

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, has ordered a probe into the killing of two youths who reportedly resisted the arrest of their friend in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state.

The incident happened around the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti on Tuesday night when the friend of the deceased knocked down a commercial motorcyclist and passenger.

The driver of the private car, upon discovery that they were in critical condition, allegedly attempted to escape but the police stopped him.

A source in the area named Yusuf disclosed that “the irate youths in the area who were colleagues of the driver of the car were preventing the Police Rapid Response Squad, RRS, from carrying out the arrest. When the officers were about to be mobbed they fired several shots to the air to scare the youths and in the process, two of the youths were killed.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, said “the officer responsible for the shooting has been disarmed, arrested and detained and shall be made to face disciplinary action, while the Command is already in touch with the two families of the deceased.
