Security Guards Break Into noodles Warehouse, Steal N1.1bn Goods

Three security guards, Idika Chukwu, Nwachukwu Abel and Mbam Moses, were on Tuesday docked before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court, Ebonyi, for allegedly stealing food items valued N1.1 billion.

Chukwu, 70, Abel, 47 and Moses, 58, all security guards at a Warehouse belonging to anoodles firm in Uburu, Ohaozara, are being charged with conspiracy, warehouse breaking and theft.

The Prosecutor, Eze Chinagorom told the court that the defendants committed the offences between Aug. 2023 and July 2024, at Umunaga, Uburu in Ohaozara, Ebonyi.

Chinagorom further said that Chukwu, Abel and Moses broke into a warehouse belonging to Indomie company to steal the goods.

He said that the defendants stole packets of blank cover, pillar lights, bedside lamps, wall bracket stands and covers, and reflectors, among others valued at N1.1.bn.

The prosecutor said that the offenses contravened Section 390(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol 1 Law of Ebonyi State, 2009.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Intelligent Ekwe, prayed the court to grant the defendants bail in the most lenient terms.

Ekwe promised that his clients would not jump bail, and would provide reliable sureties.

He also asked the court to transfer the case to Ohaozara, where the matter emanated from.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sandra Ifeanyi-Onyibe, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ifeanyi-Onyibe stated that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case until Sept. 5.
