Senator Abiru awards Thirty million Naira bursary to Six Hundred Students in Lagos East
….. to partner CCHHUB, Fate Foundation on Community Innovation Centre and Capacity training
The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District , Senator Tokunbo Abiru has awarded Thirty million Naira bursary to no fewer than 600 students of higher learnings within the 98 wards of the sixteen (16) local government and Local council development area (LCDA) of Lagos East Senatorial district of the State.
The students that benefited from the Thirty million Naira bursary were oustanding and brilliant students selected from various tertiary institutions in Lagos state .
According to Senator Abiru, the bursary was focused on promotion of higher qualitative education by supporting brilliant students but who have challenges funding their education in furtherance of their academic pursuit
He said “I want to reiterate that young people are at the core of our legislative agenda. The minimum we can do as leaders and in fidelity with our social contract with the esteemed constituents who majorly fall within this demography is to provide support for their dreams to have full and maximum expression.
I want to let you know that I am passionate about ensuring ‘greater good for greater number’. This mantra guides my philosophy and strategy in giving a lease of life to our people as much as is within my power. The tactics to drive home this strategy is encapsulated in the resonating and reassuring ‘DOING GOOD’ drive.
One of the major agenda on my social contract with the good people of Lagos East Senatorial District is youth development for global readiness.
This, I have sought to achieve with multi-dimensional approaches, which include: collaborations; co-creations; funding; infrastructural interventions, capacity building; etc. It is a part of this that has given birth to the annual ‘’Senator Tokunbo Abiru Bursary endowment fund’’ to support and encourage our star students in their respective tertiary Institutions of learning- the reason we are all here today.
The objective of this scheme is to promote higher qualitative education by supporting brilliant students but who have challenges funding their education in furtherance of their academic pursuit.”
The Senator also said the bursary award will be awarded annually ,urging the Students to remain focused and be on ther toes .
“The appreciation we have received from beneficiaries is an indication that the scheme will provide the intended succor and relief to many distraught students and their parents. We believe that this gesture will translate into better academic performance and by extension a secure future.
Let me add at this juncture, that this laudable Bursary Scheme has come to stay. Dear beneficiaries, if you will give your studies the best shot, we are ready to stand by you all the way! So, the ball is entirely in your court! ”
The Senator also said plans are underway to partner Fate Foundation for capacity training for business owners and also establish community innovation centre in partnership with Cchub , a social innovation centre .
“We are also concerned about upskilling our youth to be relevant in the job and entrepreneurship spaces. In partnership with Co-Creation Hub, CcHub, Africa’s leading innovation hub space, we are setting a Community Innovation Centre in our district. This concept will leverage on social capital and technology in accelerating economic prosperity for our teeming youth population. It will be up and running in a few months from now.
In the same manner, next month, between November 8 and 9th, we will in partnership with Fate Foundation, train one thousand Micro Small and Medium Business Owners across the entire district at a two-day MSME Clinic”
Also speaking at the event the Vice Chancellor of Lagos state University, Prof Ibiyemi Bello showered accolades on the Senator for giving out the bursary awards . It must be noted that 200 out of the bursary Beneficiaries were drawn from Lagos state University. The VC said the gesture will give hope for students and families who are less privileged .

He has restored hope, inspired- dreams and laid the foundation of a beautiful tomorrow for these youths, their families, Lagos-East Senatorial District, Lagos, Nigeria and the world at large. It is therefore, in order for me to congratulate and commend our dear Distinguished Senator for staying true to his promise and bringing smiles to the faces of the good people of Lagos East Senatorial distinct.”
Senator Tokunbo Abiru since assuming office has demonstrated his commitment to supporting and uplifting the grassrots especially the less priviledge .At the heat of the pandemic in February,2021, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand (150, 000) facemasks were donated by the Senator to primary School pupils in the Senatorial District through the Lagos State Universal Basic Board, LASUBEB
Royal fathers, Religious leaders ,members of the State Executive Council , Lawmakers both from Federal and state Assemblies , party chieftains in the state were in attendance at the event. .
