The Yobe State  Sharia Corps,  the Hisbah Commission has confiscated and destroyed 51 cartons of alcoholic beverages and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, a chemical locally known as Madarar Sukurdai, across the state.

This enforcement action aligns with the state’s laws and Islamic principles, which strictly prohibit the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicants.

Established in March 2024 by Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Hisbah Commission aims to address social vices in the state.

Chairman of the Commission, Yahuza Abubakar, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding the state’s moral and religious standards.

The commission’s operation was carried out in various parts of the state, targeting the sale and consumption of intoxicating substances.

These cases ranged from family and inheritance disputes to business disagreements, unpaid rents, community conflicts, and farmer-herder clashes. According to Abubakar, “Most of these cases were resolved amicably through reconciliation and mutual understanding.”
