South Africa’s FA President arrested for corruption

The President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, was taken into custody on Wednesday amid allegations of misusing organizational funds for personal gain.

According to local media reports, Jordaan’s arrest stems from a police investigation initiated in March, following a raid on SAFA’s offices.

The probe focuses on alleged unauthorized use of SAFA resources between 2014 and 2018.

Allegations against the FA President includes hiring a private security company for personal protection without SAFA board approval, engaging a public relations company without authorization, and misusing SAFA funds for personal benefit

The 73-year old President is expected to appear in court alongside co-accused SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling.

In his affidavit seeking to block his arrest, Jordaan denied any wrongdoing.

However, neither Jordaan nor SAFA has officially commented on the matter.

Jordaan played a pivotal role in securing the 2010 FIFA World Cup for South Africa.

The Johannesburg High Court is scheduled to hear Jordaan’s interdict application on Thursday, a day after his arrest.
