South -East Governors To Visit Tinubu For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
Governors of the five South-East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, Tuesday, resolved to meet President Bola Tinubu to discuss political solutions for a possible release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, is being held in the custody of the Department of State Services in Abuja. He is being tried over alleged terrorism. He has been in detention since 2021 when he was renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria by Nigeria’s secret security agents in collaboration with their Kenyan counterparts.
Justive Binta Nyako of an FCT High had granted the prayers of Kanu’s lead counsel, Barr Alloy Ejimakor, to seek an out-of-court settlement of Kanu’s case in court.
Meeting President Tinubu was among the resolutions of the meeting held by the five governors at the Government House, Enugu. Imo (Hope Uzodinma), Ebonyi (Francis Nwifuru), Abia (Alex Otti) and Anambra (Charles Soludo) and their Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, including Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Achebe, were in attendance during the meeting held behind closed doors.
The resolution of the governors was contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting.
The Chairperson of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Mr Uzodinma, who read out the communiqué to reporters, said the forum also resolved to tackle insecurity in the South East.
