task force arrests 25 ‘hoodlums over attacks on motorists in Lagos

The Lagos state environment and special offences enforcement unit says its operatives have arrested 25 hoodlums for allegedly attacking motorists on the Lekki-Epe expressway.

In a statement on Friday, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the spokesperson of the task force, said the suspects were arrested at Chisco Roundabout, Elegushi, Ikate roundabout, and Marwa bus stop.

He said the operation followed multiple complaints from motorists and residents through the agency’s feedback channels.

He added that residents reported an alarming rise in criminal activities, particularly during rush hour, where hoodlums hide at inconspicuous spots along the expressway to attack unsuspecting passersby and motorists.

“We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their own communities,” he said.

“The state government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause.”

Abdulraheem said the agency conducted initial surveillance in the raided area, adding that it was found that miscreants used pedestrian bridges at Ikate and Marwa bus stops to target occupants of broken-down vehicles.

He asked motorists and residents to stay alert and inform the agency or nearest police station of unusual occurrences.

In July, the agency arrested 40 traders for allegedly converting streets to mini markets
