Workers disrupts Academic activities in Akwa Ibom University

Academic activities are currently on a stand still at the Akwa Ibom state university, Ikot Akpaden, in Mkpat Enin Local government area of Akwa Ibom state following a protest by staffs of the university.
The staff numbering over one hundred block the main entrance and other access road into the institution’s main campus.
When asked of why the protest now, they said the protest is to express their grievances over what they claimed illegal deduction of their salaries and non payment of staff peculiarities allowances.
They carried playcards with verious inscriptions such as; pay us our peculiarities allowances, we are tired of half salaries, why treating us as beggers, amongst others.
They hint our correspondent that they been place on half salaries for some months now without the government or top management of the university explaining to them the rationale behind the half salaries.
As at this time, it is not clear whether the state government will reverse it half salaries payment and as well pay their perculiarity allowances said to be owed the staff of the university or not as the vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Eno Ibanga was not around and did not respond to calls and text messages send to him.
Meanwhile, there were no accademic activities also at the university anext campus at Obiokpa which host mainly agriculture and communications courses as all staffs were said to have joined their colleagues at the main campus for the protest.
